The lipo that came with my Viva sten is just fine. It's the AGM ones that had dodgy lipos.
yup, dodgy lipo with my AGM Sten, charger is ok though
After trying to make my own PPSH stock I can see there is no way you can make the grip look just like the real thing, but they have made a good compromise I just hope they don't snap off.
The only way to get it to look right would be to make it out of plastic to keep the strength.
You need a 30mm square cut down the inside of the grip to get a M14 motor in there, and when a real grip is only 35mm wide and it's round you end up with a grip that is closer to 45mm diameter.
One good point about this is that it won't have that stupid link round the back of the M14 gearbox that gives so much trouble on the M14.
This will just have a arm down the left hand side of the gearbox that will switch the fire selector in front of the trigger.
However if this thing in made as well as it should be it will probably be heavier than the AGM MP44.

When I made my PPSH41 (almost 2 years ago now, how time flies), I had to make the stock a bit wider to accommodate the M14 gearboxs' motor. I stripped off all of the superfluous side brackets on the gearbox too and didn't bother with a fire selector. With a router, it was possible to make a precise cut in the two halves of the stock for the gearbox to fit exactly and battery compartment to be large enough to fit a large battery.
I'll be interested to see up close AGM's solution to strengthening the stock where the motor is.
When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!
What about putting the motor in the butt, with a drive shaft up through the thin part?

Too complicated. It leaves less room for a battery and you'd need to be very precise with it, which is never very good for reliability. To be honest, a slightly thicker stock is a small price to pay for having an AEG PPSH41. Sometimes, I kick myself for selling mine.

Wouldn't need to be "very precise" with universal joints, or better yet, a flexible drive.

True but it would be a SOB to get the motor in and out the stock unless you fit it right at the butt plate area.
So the prop shaft would have to be long with a socket on to connect to the gearbox easily.

As you can see I've got most of what I need for one, the stock, triggerguard & magwell are all genuine, the upper reciever & barrel shroud are fibreglass
I'm planning to fit a MP7 gearbox which means that I don't have to do anything with the stock and it will sit in the reciever area with enough space behind it for a battery.
What is the performance like in the MP7 box?
Nice setup Pete.

Nice rate of fire on this thing maybe too much for some

The Ares PPSh will be out in Jan 2010 and is apparently Ares first dabble into, wait for it... electric blowback.

Blowback? hmmm methinks this will be the usual "paperclip attached to the end of the piston" jobbie, then there is the small matter of the price....

With any luck the blowback mechanism will be disconnectable, judging by others i've seen, i can't imagine it'll anything other than rubbish!
Most blowback systems on AEG's are easily disconnected. Just wait for it to break...

When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress
Now we're a country we're run by a..........
Stick with the HP then no silly blow back.

Action Hobbies have the Ares on pre order £349.99 Apparently Cyberspunk are up to their old tricks and have the licence for the Ares version.

So they still don't have a finished model to show us then.
I think HP at around £200 is the better option.
Or maybe I will just finish my own but still have a lot to do.

Not having seen a manufacturer-made blowback AEG, do they still go the wrong way, and does this quote mean the PPSH will be correct?
What sets this AEG aside is the fact that it gives a very realistic blowback when firing.
It says "very realistic". I'd consider the bolt at least going the right way to be "marginally" realistic.
